Delaware County Council Makes Positive Reforms

The Delaware County Council has started off the new year with big changes in the name of accountability! The newly elected council members were sworn in on January 6th, and Council promptly released reforms aimed at making government more accessible to county residents:

  1. Public council meetings will now be held at 6pm. You can view the upcoming meeting dates on our website, or visit the county’s website to learn more.

  2. Public comment periods will now be held at both the beginning and the end of the meetings to ensure that all interested residents can speak.

  3. Public meetings will be broadcast live on County Council’s Facebook page.

  4. Council members will now hold weekly office hours where residents can speak with them directly to ask questions and voice concerns.

  5. Council members will be designated to act as liaisons to County departments and will oversee and be accountable for the performance of the departments.

  6. Council will create an Ethics and Government Reform Program.

Additionally, Council also appointed member Kevin Madden as their representative on the County Jail Oversight Board that oversees management of George W. Hill Correctional Facility.

These reforms will greatly help many of our fellow residents take a more active role in our county government, along with increasing transparency into the County Council’s decision-making. We hope that more Delaware County residents will now have the ability to speak out and share their support for the deprivatization of George W. Hill.
